Nepal
This beautiful Himalayan country is located between Tibet and India. Approximately 2500 years ago, Buddha has been born in the south of Nepal, in the place called Lumbini.
Nepal is four times the size of the Netherlands and has a population of approximately 30 million people. Many people (+/- 1 million) live in the Kathmandu Valley, this is also where the capital of the same name is located.
Approximately 80 percent of the population is Hindu, in many streets you can see the Hindu statues and temples.
Buddhism is also very important, about 10% of the population depends on this religion.

The Nepali Bronze Buddha statues are among the most detailed statues in the entire world. For months, statues are being hand carved & polished and the most beautiful carvings are being added. Often they are fire gilded with 24 carat. gold.
Real masterpieces are hard to find. The old handicraft is slowly dying. But given our family ties with Nepal, we visit the country several times a year and are still being able to search and find some of the best Buddha statues in the country.
